What is presents2me.com?

presents2me.com allows you to create a list of things you'd like to get for any gift-giving occassion. Friends, family, and others you invite can view your list and know what to get for you. They can mark the list if they make a purchase, so that others know which items on your list have been bought. You get what you want, your friends and loved ones get a less-stressful shopping experience. Everybody wins!

How do others view my list?

When you sign up, you create a presents2me.com ID. Let's pretend you created an account with an id of 'sample'. Your list can be found at http://www.presents2me.com/sample.

Where do I put things in my list?

Use the [My List] link in the toolbar to go to the page where you can edit your list.

  •  (Up Arrow) moves that list item up.
  •  (Down Arrow moves that list item down.
  •  (Right Arrow) moves indents the list item.
  •  (Left Arrow) un-indents the list item.
  •  (Plus) creates a new list item under the list item.
  •  (X) marks a list item for removal.
  •  (Circular Arrows) cycles the item identifier between...
    •  Specific (If your item is a specific one)
    •  Non-Specific (If your list item is not specific or multiples would be OK)
    •  Group (If you want to use the list item as a group heading)

Item? URL? Further Description? Huh?

A list item is at least one, and up to three parts...
  • Item, which is a short description of what you would like to receive
  • URL, an Internet address pointing to that item, usually on a site like Amazon.com
  • Further Description, which is any other information you'd like people to have about the item
This gives flexibility in creating list items. You can create list items that look like...
  • Example List Item: Amazon's Kindle, Deluxe 3G 9.7" Display
    • 'Amazon's Kindle' is the Item text
    • 'http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002GYWHSQ?ie=UTF8&tag=presents2meco-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002GYWHSQ' is the URL

What is a list key?

If you don't trust that someone might get your address and want to checkmark everything, just for kicks, you can define a list key. It is, essentially, a password to keep unauthorized people from updating your list. If you choose to have a list key and you want people to be able to update your list, you will have to give them both the list address and the list key.

Do I really need to use links?

No, you don't, but the links will be a big help to those buying for you. For example, while your eight-year-old may be completely on top of the matter, many uncles and grandmothers don't know and can't tell one Bakugan from the next.

Where do I get links? How do I get links?

If you're editing your presents2me.com list, you might open a second browser window (a shopping window), where you could surf the Internet, looking for things to add to your list. When you find something you'd like to add to your list, copy the URL from the address bar of the shopping window. On the presents2me.com edit page, fill in what you need to fill in for Before-Link Text, Link Text, and After-Link Text. Paste the URL you copied from the shopping window, and paste it into the Link Address box of the item you're adding.

If I click the Like button to share this with my Facebook friends, what should I put in the comment?

Anything you want, really. It might be good to put the URL to your personal list there. You may ask people to contact you for the list key (if you defined one)... or you may just put your list key in the comment. It's up to you.

Can I view my own list? What stops me from peeking?

It's all on the honor system, so if you REALLY want to look, you could view your own list. You would see what's been bought, but you wouldn't know who bought it.

This would be great for my children, but they're too young to make their own lists! How can I create lists for all of them?

Any number of lists can be created using the same email address and (while not good practice) even the same password.

For example, Mom, to edit Bobby's list, you would log in with the presents2me.com ID for Bobby along with the password you used with Bobby's ID. To edit Cindy Loo's list, first log out of Bobby's account, log in with the presents2me.com ID for Cindy Loo along with the password you used with Cindy Loo's ID.

I created two lists and used the same email and password for both. I logged in with my email and password, but I can only get to one account. Why?

If you use the same email address and password for two different lists, then log in using that email and password, you will be logged in to the same account all the time, the first one presents2me.com comes across in it's search. Logging in using the unique presents2me.com ID along with the password would be the only way to be sure to get to a specific list.

I lost my password. I don't even know how many lists I have. What can I do?

Use the 'Did you
Forget your password
?' link on the Log In page. All the presents2me.com IDs and passwords created with the email address you supply will be sent to you.
